The NEC is located in the middle of the UK’s motorway network and only 8 miles east of Birmingham city centre. Follow the electronic signage or simply speak to their traffic team ensuring you park at the correct spot. Once you’ve parked you can either take a free shuttle bus or walk to the halls using the sign posted footpaths.
- Travelling North on the M42, exit at Junction 6 and follow the signs to The NEC. Once on site, follow the signs for Grand Designs Live
- Travelling South on the M42, exit at Junction 6 and follow signs to The NEC. Once on site, follow the signs for Grand Designs Live
- Travelling South on the M6, exit at Junction 4 and follow signs to The NEC. Once on site, follow the signs for Grand Designs Live
- Travelling North on the M6, exit at Junction 4, keeping to the left and following signs to The NEC. Once on site, follow the signs for Grand Designs Live
When you arrive onto the NEC site, follow the car park signs for Grand Designs Live. Walk to Atrium Entrance 2. Once you have accessed the Atrium area follow the signs to one of the Gallery Suites. If you have a passenger who is a wheelchair user and has wheelchair difficulties, we recommend that you drop them off at Atrium entrance 2 via Gate 3. Once inside the signs to the Gallery Suites 1, 2 & 3 located on the first floor. You will also be able to follow the ‘Selfbuild Bootcamp’ Signs which will lead you to registration.
Shuttle bus service
Team NEC operate a convenient shuttle bus service from the car parks to the venue during the open time of each event. They usually run from one hour before the event opens to one hour after the closing time. Please check the electronic signage at the bus stops for live information.
To travel by train to The NEC, your destination station is Birmingham International. Please check before setting out that your train stops at this station as some do not.
On arrival at Birmingham International, Follow the bridge link and signs from the station to The NEC. Take the Skywalk to Events being held in the Gallery Suites. You will also be able to follow able to follow the ‘Selfbuild Bootcamp’ Signs which will lead you to registration.
The NEC is right next to Birmingham International rail station. You can get to any of the halls quickly and conveniently, without having to step outside! The NEC entrance is on the right hand side as you exit the station, and clearly signposted.
Many services run direct to Birmingham International. If yours doesn’t, you can catch a connecting train at Birmingham New Street. There are regular services, and the journey only takes 10-15 minutes. Buses to the NEC can be caught at Birmingham Moor Street and Solihull stations. By bus and coach
Coach services are operated by National Express and Megabus, with over 120 daily services from across the UK to Birmingham Airport. From here you can get to the NEC in minutes on the free air-rail link. Regular local buses depart from Birmingham City Centre. The 900 service runs every 15 min during the day taking approximately 30 min. The 97 service operates every 30 min, 24hrs a day taking approximately 45 min. Local bus services also run every 30 min throughout the day to Solihull (service 966) and Coventry (service 900).
The NEC is just minutes away from Birmingham Airport (BHX) – which is very handy for international visitors and those on UK internal flights!
From the airport, simply take the free and fast Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International railway station and then it’s just a short walk to our entrance. The Air-Rail Link runs every 2 minutes and takes just 90 seconds to reach the NEC. It leaves the airport from the upper level of Terminal 1, and operates daily between 05:15am and 02:00am.
